Sandbox Game Performance in Europe Q1 2021: Android Insights

The European sandbox game scene on the Android platform has seen significant activity in the first quarter of 2021. Sensor Tower provides a closer look at the performance of the top 5 sandbox games during this period.

Roblox, a leading game from Roblox Corporation, showed remarkable numbers with weekly revenue peaking at over $1.5M and downloads reaching upwards of 600K. Notably, the weekly active users (WAUs) saw an increase, starting the quarter at approximately 19M and growing to nearly 23M by the end of March.

Another heavyweight, Minecraft from Mojang, demonstrated steady performance with revenues fluctuating around the $300K mark weekly. Minecraft's downloads saw a slight decrease over the quarter, from approximately 66K to 34K. However, its WAUs experienced growth, from just under 2M to over 2.3M.

ELECTRONIC ARTS' The Sims™ FreePlay also had a notable presence in the market. While its revenues were lower, hovering around $100K weekly, the game's downloads and WAUs showed a declining trend through the quarter, with downloads dropping from 92K to 62K and WAUs decreasing from 368K to 320K.

Avakin Life - 3D Virtual World by Lockwood Publishing Ltd saw revenues around $100K weekly, with a slight increase towards the end of the quarter. Downloads for Avakin Life fluctuated, starting at over 100K and ending the quarter with 78K. In terms of WAUs, the game started with 653K and slightly decreased to 651K.

Lastly, IMVU, Inc.'s IMVU: Social Chat & Avatar app showed revenues in the range of $30K to $40K weekly. The app experienced a surge in downloads in early March, reaching over 67K, but saw a decline to 24K by the end of the quarter. WAUs for IMVU peaked at 362K in early March but dropped to 255K by the quarter's close.
